Connecting Contentful

Heads Up!

Connecting Contentful to Stitch is a three-step process:

  1. Add Contentful as a Stitch data source
  2. Generate a Webhook URL
  3. Set up webhooks in Contentful

Adding Contentful as a Stitch Data Source

  1. On the Stitch Dashboard page, click the Add an Integration button.
  2. Click the Contentful icon. If you need to use Contentful's Zapier integration to complete the setup, click the Zapier icon instead.
  3. Enter a name for the integration. This is the name that will display on the Stitch Dashboard for the integration; it’ll also be used to create the schema in your data warehouse.

For example, the name “Stitch Contentful" would create a schema called stitch_mandrill in the data warehouse. This schema is where all the tables for this integration will be stored.
  4. Click Save Integration.

Generating a Contentful Webhook URL

Once Stitch has successfully saved and created the integration, you’ll be redirected to a page that displays your webhook URL and token (which is blurred in the image below):

Stitch Webhook URL

Click the Copy button to copy it.

Note that this particular URL won’t display in Stitch again once you click Continue. Think of this URL like you would your login or API credentials - keep it secret, keep it safe. You can, however, generate another URL should you need it.

Once you’ve copied your webhook URL, click Continue to wrap things up in Stitch.

Setting Up Webhooks in Contentful

The last step is to setup webhooks in your Contentful account. For more detailed instructions, refer to Contentful’s webhook docs.

  1. Sign into your Contentful account.
  2. If you have more than one space, make sure you select correct one from the drop-down menu (next to Home in the top left corner) before proceeding.
  3. Click Settings in the top nav panel, then Webhooks.
  4. Click Add Webhook.
  5. In the Name field, enter a name for the webhook.
  6. In the URL field, paste your Stitch-generated webhook URL.
  7. Next, you’ll select the events you want to track. Navigate to the Trigger this webhook for section and:
    • To track specific events, click Only selected events. A grid of available events will display; use the checkbox(es) to select the event(s):

Note that it may not be possible to select some events. For example: Contentful doesn’t allow content types to be archived, so Content Type - Archive/Unarchive events can’t be selected.

    • To track ALL events, simply leave All events selected.

  8. When finished, click the Save button located near the top right corner.

Contentful Data & Replication

After the setup for Contentful is complete, your webhook data will be continuously replicated through Stitch. To learn more about how Stitch replicates Contentful webhook data and our recommended strategy for querying, check out the Expected Contentful Data article.
