Connecting Google AdWords

Setting up the Google AdWords integration can be done in just four simple steps:

  1. Linking your AdWords and Analytics accounts
  2. Verifying your permissions
  3. Adding Google AdWords as a data source
  4. Connecting your GA profile(s)

Before you get started, pause any ad-blocking software you are currently using. Because Google authentication uses pop ups, you may encounter issues if ad blockers aren't disabled during the setup.

Linking Your AdWords & Analytics Accounts

Before you can connect your AdWords data, you'll need to verify that your AdWords account is linked to the Analytics profile you want to use to connect to Stitch. If your accounts aren't linked before you attempt to connect AdWords to Stitch, you'll encounter issues.

How to check that there's AdWords data in your GA account.

You can verify that your Analytics account contains AdWords data (meaning the accounts are linked) by doing the following:

  1. Log into Google Analytics and navigate to the profile you want to connect to Stitch.
  2. In the main reporting dashboard, click the Acquisition option in the menu on the left side of the page.
  3. Click AdWords.
  4. Click Campaigns.

If you see data in the report that displays, that means your AdWords and Analytics accounts are successfully linked. The GIF above is for process demonstration purposes only - as you can see, we don't have any AdWords data in that particular account.

Verifying Your Permissions Settings

To access your AdWords data, Stitch requires at least Read & Analyze permissions. Verify that the GA profile(s) you want to connect have these permissions before continuing.

If the profile you use to connect doesn’t have these permissions (or there’s no data in the account), you’ll receive the error below:

Adding Google AdWords as a Data Source

  1. On the Stitch Dashboard page, click the Add an Integration button.
  2. Click the Google AdWords icon.
  3. On the GA sign in page, click the Sign in with Google Analytics button.
  4. The next page will display a list of your Google accounts (if you’re logged into one already) or you’ll be asked to enter your Google credentials.

Select the Google account you want to use to connect or enter the credentials of the profile. Make sure you use the account that has the correct permission settings.
  5. Next, you’ll be asked to authorize the requested permissions. Note that we will only ever read your data. Click Allow to continue.

After your credentials are validated, you'll be redirected back to Stitch and a list of GA profiles will display.

Selecting GA Profiles to Connect to Stitch

To complete the setup, you need to select the GA profile(s) you want to connect to Stitch.

Remember: profiles need to have Read & Analyze permissions to be detected by Stitch. If you don’t see a profile you want in this list, we recommend that you double-check the permission settings.

After you’ve selected the profiles you want to connect, click the Save Integration button to complete the setup.

That's it! Sit back, relax, and let your data flow.
